Concrete scanning allows construction workers to work on concrete structures with accuracy and safety.
If you are in the construction industry, you will know that almost all construction will include some excavation, cutting, coring, or drilling into concrete. In days gone by, concrete structures would be excavated, cut, cored, or drilled, without any knowledge about the contents of the concrete.
At best, this would mean that the digging and cutting was done in the wrong place. At worst, it would pose a considerable safety hazard to all those on the construction site.
Fortunately, technological advancements have provided a solution in the form of concrete scanning. An accurate scan of the concrete structure beforehand will mean that concrete cutting and similar work can be done accurately and safely. Workers can safely cut into concrete without hitting electrical cables or encountering any other potential hazards.
GSSI StructureScan Mini XT
Complete GPR system for Concrete Scanning
The team at Concrete Genie use GSSI StructureScan Mini XT which is the newest generation of their popular all-in-one ground penetrating radar systems. The StructureScan Mini XT offers a 2.7 GHz antenna for superior target resolution and can reach depths up to 600mm, any thicker and a scan ontop slab and underslab will be completed for accuracy.
The StructureScan Mini XT is ideal for locating rebar, conduits, post-tension cables, voids and real-time determination of concrete slab thickness.
Once all scans are complete in each area, a radiodetection RD 7200 wand is used over the areas to search for live power and assure it is safe to core or cut in assigned area.
GPR provides faster and more accurate results, which in turn allows you to work with precision and safety.
Concrete scanning is done quickly and – importantly – can be done while other work is carried out on the construction site. It won’t disrupt or delay any other tasks being carried out on site.
Enabling construction workers to work more efficiently, saves time and therefore money on your construction job. And everyone on site can have peace of mind knowing they will not encounter any safety hazards hidden in concrete.
